This is What I Know About Going Back to Work Today

1. I LOVE WORKING.

2. I will be helping veterans get the VA health benefits they deserve.

3. My low profile data entry position is very important.

4. My family will finally be able to sock away some cash-o-la.

5. Traffic just is, sit back and enjoy the ride.

6. After 7 years at home with the littles, this girl has still got it.

7. I have a healthy perspective, perhaps I won't be so enthusiastic about working this time next week.

8. That's okay.

9. I have the GREATEST HUBS EVER; homework done, dinner made, and a picture texted of this girl making me tuna.

10. I like coming home to kids running to the door shrieking "MAMA! MAMA!"

The Boy Is Now 7

This boy
  turned seven last week.

When I asked him what he wanted to eat for his birthday dinner, he replied
"Pancakes for Julie cause those are her favorite. I want a tuna sandwich. You and Daddy can eat that stuff you like."
"Chinese food?" I guessed.
"Yeah, Chinese food, you and daddy like that."

My boy.
He chose for everyone to have their favorite food for his birthday.
He spoke his request for his sister first.

My boy.
No words to describe my pride and my love. Just my boy.

It's The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year

That's right, I made it. I made it through 7 years of staying home with children to this momentous moment...when my two children went off to a full day of school TOGETHER.

Here goes...

I tried to get a picture of the kids walking down the driveway with Mike, but they were too excited to see the recycling guys dump our recyclables.  Ahhh memories.

Yes. Julie chose to wear fake glasses and Superman thigh-highs for the first day of school. At the end of her preschool year last June, Julie won the fashionista award for her class...nuff said about this girl's fashion sense and over what this mama is willing to battle.

When all the shoutin' and fightin' is over, these two truly love each other.

What for it, wait for it...here comes bus 831!

We were delighted to find Miss Betty at the wheel again this year. Both kids are very fond of Miss Betty. We saw her at the firehouse breakfast last spring (yuuuum, bacon Uncle Paul) and she surprised me with her height. When you only see someone sitting down for 180 days a year, it's amazing what they look like standing on legs.

Mike took this day off of work. We celebrated the idea of free childcare by going out to the local Citgo for breakfast (yummmmmm sausage gravy) and lazing about the house. I can see this being a yearly tradition.

Now.

Julie came home from school full of bubbles and stories of who was in her class, where she ate lunch and who she sat with on the bus. She also came home with many requests...

Mommy, can we go swimming?
No. We don't swim after school.
Mommy, can we go for ice cream?
No. We don't go for ice cream after school.
Mommy, can Maria come over and play?
No, we don't have friends over after school.

Stomping of feet, gnashing of teeth, squinchy V between her eyebrows...

MoMMYYYYY! You mean to tell me I can't do NUFFIN after school? Dats it den, I'm NOT going to school tomorrow, I have dings I need to DO.

Wowza. Wowza for this mama. After my child's first and only full day of public education, she declared that she didn't have enough time to do the things she wants to do. Over the next 13 years, this child has 2,339 more days of school until she is free and clear to do what she wants. I guess we will just take it one day at a time.

Today I Am Grateful For

getting up before the SCHOOL-AGED CHILDREN
a day with my hubs while the SCHOOL-AGED CHILDREN are at school
going out to breakfast without the SCHOOL-AGED CHILDREN
asking my HP for help to not yell at the SCHOOL-AGED CHILDREN before they get on the bus
praying that my SCHOOL-AGED CHILDREN have a glorious first day at school
plans to be gentle with myself while the SCHOOL-AGED CHILDREN are at school

Perhaps some first day of school pics may follow...

This Is What I Know

1. Blogger does not like to download pics from my iPad.

2. This is not a good excuse not to blog.

3. Julie is a strong, brave, beautiful 5 year old.

4. In less than three weeks she goes off to kindergarten and I won't hear her ear-piercing screams or see her nasty faces she likes to make when she's mad.

5. Less than three weeks is a long time. A. Very. Long. Time.

6. I have been depressed all winter and finally figured it out this past June.

7. I am in the middle of switching medications and have not been feeling so great ALL SUMMER.

8. I do what my dad says and push on regardlessly.

9. I am woman, can you hear me roaring?  See number 4.

10. Yesterday was my Aunt Beth's 91st birthday, I usually call her. She is in the hospital, on a ventilator but alert.  I called her children and wished them all well instead. That felt good.

11. My brother Paul is an amazing man. I want to make more time to see him, he only lives 40 minutes away.

12. My friend Don has been sick. I miss him.

13. This blogging thing ain't so bad...I'm gonna make an effort to do this more often.

14. I like Stacy's Pita Chips and roasted garlic hummus...waaaaaaaay too much.

15. Good thing this blogging thing isn't like smellavision, dontcha know.
